Elul is called the “Month of Mercy” חודש הרחמים
It is a time for teshuvah (return) to God, to renew one’s efforts in prayer, Torah study and charity, and to seek forgiveness for transgression, especially against one’s fellows.

The Hebrew month of Elul offers us an opportunity to prepare for the High Holy Days ahead. It is a time of introspection. The Torah inspires us to develop our character, Tikkun Middot, becoming
better people by correcting our faults and improving our character.
