Understanding Elul Day 17- Mini Course. Thank you for joining me on a 29 days journey, as we learn and understand 29 things about the month of Elul. Every day I will post one thing to know about Elul.
The four letters that make up the Hebrew word “Elul” are believed to be an acronym for the famous phrase from Song of Songs: ‘Ani L’dodi V’dodi Lee‘ – I am my beloved and my beloved is mine.
Most often interpreted as love poetry between two people, the phrase also reflects the love between God and the Jewish people, especially at this season, as we assess our actions and behaviors during the past year and hope for blessings in the coming year.
The Hebrew month of Elul
The Hebrew month of Elul offers us an opportunity to prepare for the High Holy Days ahead. It is a time of introspection. The Torah inspires us to develop our character, Tikkun Middot, becoming
better people by correcting our faults and improving our character.
